Frequently Asked Questions
Therapy can be a valuable tool for just about anyone looking to change their life and/or want more for themselves.
Often people seek therapy during periods of transition (the transition from school to work, beginnings or endings of relationships, coming to a new understanding about your gender or sexuality) because these can bring to the surface some of our growth opportunities.
Is therapy right for me?
I’ve struggled to make progress in therapy. How will this be different?
We specialize in emotions-focused, trauma-informed and somatically-attuned therapy: we primarily use Internal Family Systems (IFS) and Accelerated Experiential Dynamic Psychotherapy (AEDP).
This holistic approach makes the difference in actually getting to the core of things, allowing for true healing rather than coping.
Reaching a plateau is a common experience in therapy and self-work. Often this point is when we can understand some of our patterns and manage some of our triggers, yet yearn to have these things feel more frictionless. By addressing the underlying roots of this patterning, from the bottom up, we are able to “rewire” our brains in a way that allows a sense of ease we may never have felt before.
How long does therapy take? And how long should I be in therapy?
This answer is highly individual, but at the very least we suggest planning for weekly sessions for 6 months. As in all relationships, building a relationship with your therapist can take time and feel somewhat slow at first. This relationship becomes an invaluable resource as time goes on, and often once this relationship is established, progress becomes much faster.
Our session fee is $225 for individual therapy and $250 for relationship therapy.
We also offer sliding-scale, reduced-fee ($100-175) sessions for BIPOC with the experience of ongoing financial oppression.
How much will therapy cost?
Do you take insurance?
We do not accept insurance directly, but you may have “out-of-network” benefits that reimburse you for 50-80% of the cost of sessions.
You can check our insurance calculator to make sure.
Can I meet my therapist in person?
We are currently 100% virtual, but expect an update on an office space for in-person sessions in Brooklyn, NY in Spring 2025.
How do virtual sessions work?
We will meet via an HIPAA compliant video call platform called SimplePractice. Our sessions can be easily accessed via browser or smartphone app.
What if I am not located in New York?
Currently, we are only licensed to see clients residing in the state of New York, if within the United States. This is due to ever-evolving state-to-state regulations surrounding social work.
There is more flexibility to see clients abroad;
we have worked with folks in the United Kingdom, the Caribbean, and Asia.
